View from the Ground (Capitol 1982)

     Dopo il grande successo di "Alibi"(80), gli America ritentano la strada del pop sofisticato, chiamando a raccolta una nutrita schiera di musicisti californiani e pubblicando un album musicalmente molto leggero, piacevole in alcuni episodi, ma troppo melodico e banale in altri. Riscuote un buon successo di vendite il singolo estratto, "You can do magic", scritta da Russ Ballard, un buon brano con un alto potenziale radiofonico. Discrete sono anche "Never be lonely" e "Love on the vine", due raffinate composizioni che ci fanno ancora amare le splendide voci di Beckley e Bunnell, ma il resto dell'album si perde in melodie scontate e zuccherose. Nel complesso un disco appena sufficiente, più noto tra i fans della westcoast music per gli ospiti presenti che per il contenuto musicale.
