Stampede (Warner Bros. 1975)

     Con questo album entra definitivamente a far parte dei Doobie Brothers il chitarrista Jeff Baxter, già con gli Steely Dan, ma che aveva partecipato anche ai precedenti lavori del gruppo come ospite. Con la formazione allargata a sei e la collaborazione di illustri ospiti come Ry Cooder e Maria Muldaur, viene pubblicato "Stampede" che però risulta meno riuscito dei precedenti lavori. I pezzi sono abbastanza scontati e le uniche composizioni di buon livello le troviamo nella prima parte dell'album e cioè "Neal's Fandango" "Texas lullaby" e "Music Man". Insieme all'album d'esordio é forse il disco più debole tra i primi cinque della band e chiude il primo periodo musicale del gruppo, che comincerà a modificare il sound dal lavoro successivo con l'entrata nel complesso di Michael McDonald.
