Raw Silk (Warner Bros. 1979)

     Il terzo lavoro di Randy Crawford é tanto poco conosciuto per quanto bello. E' questo un album spesso ritenuto secondario nella discografia dell'artista ma è invece di primissimo piano per il contenuto musicale. Il disco é ricco di brani pop-soul lievemente jazzati che, escludendo un paio di episodi minori in cui si sprecano i violini, sono tutti qualitativamente eccellenti. Tra i musicisti abbiamo dei bei nomi della fusion come Don Gruisin, John Tropea, Abraham Laboriel e Will Lee ed anche tra gli autori troviamo firme conosciute. Strepitose le prime due canzoni dell'album,"I stand accused", pezzo del 1964 di Jerry Butler, e "Declaration of love" di Allen Toussaint, già interpretata dall'autore l'anno precedente nell'album "Motion" (1978). Ottime anche "Nobody" e "I hope you'll be very unhappy without me". Quest'ultimo pezzo, scritto da Bill LaBounty, era già stato inciso per ben due volte dallo stesso autore, prima nel suo album d'esordio "Promised love" (1975) e poi, con un arrangiamento leggermente diverso, nel suo secondo lavoro "This night won't last forever" (1978).
