Spellbound (EMI 1978)

     Sconosciuto gruppo californiano formato da alcuni session men provenienti da varie esperienze. Tra questi troviamo Barry Flast che ha suonato con i Poco, Bill Burgess con i Rowans e soprattutto James Preston, batterista e vocalist dei Sons of Champlin nei loro ultimi quattro albums. Gli Spellbound pubblicano un solo lavoro con un sound a cavallo tra southern rock, country rock e qualche tentazione pop, come nell'iniziale "Just not a fool". Un disco interessante, suonato e cantato egregiamente e ricco di belle armonie vocali, che piacerà a chi ama i Poco, i Manassas di Stephen Stills ma anche band come i Cate Brothers, sempre impegnate a miscelare sapientemente pop e southern rock.
