American Gypsies (Warner Bros. 1977)

     Phil Galdston e Peter Thom si fanno notare nel 1975 quando Barry Manilow incide il loro brano "Why don't we live together". Il buon successo della canzone fa ottenere loro un contratto dalla Warner Bros. e la possibilità di incidere un disco a loro nome. Nasce così "American Gypsies", un album che, malgrado non vanti musicisti famosi, si può considerare un ottimo prodotto di pop westcoastiano. Non tutti i brani sono straordinari, ma ci sono alcune composizione veramente imperdibili come l'eccellente ballata "Savannah sunny sunday" e due pezzi più tirati, vagamente funky, come "When the silence stops" e "It won't work". Se aggiungiamo anche la buona title-track e il rifacimento del pezzo di Manilow, otteniamo un disco incredibilmente piacevole che sarebbe un peccato non possedere. Malgrado tutto questo, il lavoro non ottiene alcun successo e costringe i due artisti ad una pausa di riflessione. Si ripresenteranno nel 1980 sotto il nome di Far Cry, pubblicando un ottimo lavoro di pop californiano come "The More Things Change...".
